# Recording a supplier payment

## Why this matters

Recording the payment reduces what your business owes the supplier and identifies where the money came from.

## Before you start

Open the correct supplier account. Have the amount and the account used to pay. If your business uses till control, open the till used for the payment. Your role must allow supplier credit purchases and payments.

The task-specific walkthrough is being prepared. For now, watch this Dukarun overview.

## Steps

1. Open **Suppliers** and select the supplier.
2. Check the supplier balance and recent purchases.
3. Find **Pay this supplier**.
4. Enter the **Amount (KES)**.
5. Choose **Pay from** and select the account that supplied the money.
6. Choose **Record supplier payment**.
7. Check the updated supplier balance and account activity.

## What changes in Dukarun

The supplier payable and the selected cash or bank balance both fall. The payment does not create a new purchase or cost of goods sold because the purchase was recorded earlier.

## If something does not look right

* If the supplier has no payable, first check that the purchase was recorded against this account.
* If payment is paused, follow the account integrity notice and ask Finance to reconcile the source records.
* Select the account that actually paid the supplier so the money balance remains useful.
