# Creating a customer and setting credit

## Why this matters

A customer account keeps sales, payments, contact details, and credit decisions together. A clear credit policy controls how much the customer may owe and when payment is expected.

> [Start the interactive guide in Dukarun](https://app.dukarun.com/learn/creating-a-customer-with-credit). It opens the real customer screen and points to the controls as you work.

## Before you start

Know the customer's name and useful contact details. Decide the credit limit, payment terms, and reason for the decision. Your role must allow you to manage customers and customer credit.

The task-specific walkthrough is being prepared. For now, watch this Dukarun overview.

## Steps

1. Open **Customers**, then choose **Add customer**.
2. Enter the customer's name and useful contact details, then save.
3. Open the customer account and find the credit settings.
4. Enter the **Credit limit (KES)** and **Terms (days)**.
5. Turn on **Approved for credit**.
6. Enter a clear **Reason** for the policy.
7. Choose **Save settings**. If the button says **Request change**, submit the request and wait for an authorised person to approve it.

## What changes in Dukarun

The customer can be selected on the Sell screen. After the credit policy is approved, credit sales can use the saved limit and terms.

## If something does not look right

* A submitted request is not an approval. Wait for an authorised person to approve it.
* If **Sell on credit** remains unavailable, check the approval, credit limit, current balance, and available credit.
* Search before creating a customer so sales and payments are not split across duplicate accounts.
